Cleaning My Gun

Uncategorized

Very often I hear the same thing from fellow shooters, that the part they hate the most (or like the least) about shooting is cleaning their guns. Well, I dunno, maybe I’m different, but I actually enjoy it very much.

There’s a beautiful Arizona Sunday morning outside, sunny with 73 degrees and a light cool breeze. My wife and kids are still sleeping and everything is quiet. It’s one of the rare weekends that I absolutely have no plans for – no catching up on work, no house projects, nothing. So here I am, in my garage, whistling Mark Knopfler’s tune, having my morning cup of tea (yes, yes, I know, it’s too fancy, but I promise there’s a bottle of Kilt Lifter in the fridge, peacefully waiting till clock strikes 5) and taking my precision instruments apart, hearing these wonderful click sounds the slide stops make when they are pushed out from the right side, wiping the excess oil out, occasionally catching springs and guide rods as they fly across the bench, brushing chambers and checking trigger pulls with my official NRA weights (“put your gun on the bench and step away, tell me your competitor’s number” – am I good at it or what?) – and boy, I’m having a good time!

Well, how about you, do you like cleaning your guns? 🙂
