Stone Soup – Part 2

Uncategorized

While waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive, I stippled the front strap and cut the grip safety tangs to .250 radius using my rotary table.

Gauge pins are awesome!

I then hand fitted the grip safety using gauge pins and sharpie to mark and file down the high spots.

What’s for dinner, honey?

I blasted the frame and the slide with 120 grit aluminum oxide and soaked them overnight in the acetone bath to clean up any oils and dirt. Then I blued them using the Brownells’ Belgian Blue process (yes, my wife saw me doing this on the kitchen stove and didn’t say a word, what an amazing woman!)

Mmm, the 1911 soup, yum!

After four applications I was done and soaked the parts overnight in used motor oil.

The gun is now reassembled and the trigger is crisp 4lbs!

Finished off with Kensight “sharkskin” grips
